Title

A Review on Hybrid Feed Microstrip Antenna Array

Abstract

In today’s world the antenna has become most important element. Antenna is a metallic device which is designed for radiating and receiving electromagnetic energy. While designing antenna for wireless system, the bigger challenge is to maintain the same performance even if antenna size is reduced. Different types of antennas are used for the wireless communication and from all microstrip patch antenna is widely used because of its low cost, easy fabrication and simple design. Despite all the advantages the microstrip patch antenna has the drawback of lower frequency bandwidth, low efficiency and low gain. It means antenna used more power from the source. Due to limited source of power, this type of antenna is not useful for high frequency. There are various method used on microstrip patch antenna for an enhancement in bandwidth and gain. Antenna array is one of the techniques for enhancement in the performance of microstrip patch antenna. Various works has been carried out in the field of antenna arrays like arrays with superstrate layer, EBG (Electromagnetic band gap structure) loaded patch antennas, Mushroom based antenna arrays, varying the substrate thickness and increasing the number of elements in antenna. While designing the antenna arrays the mutual coupling between the antenna elements should be reduced. The EBG and mushroom based antennas mentioned above are used for this purpose. Antenna arrays can be used in various applications such as millimeter-wave applications, satellite communication, Radar, 5G communication, defence etc.
