Title

GENERATION OF ELECTRIC POWER FROM PLANTS

Abstract

This paper discusses a new method of generation of electrical power from the living plants which does not evolve any harmful byproducts or atmospheric pollutants. Here the existing methodology of photosynthesis process in plants is effectively utilized for the generation of electricity. This practice of harvesting electrical energy from plants involves simple technology. The organic matter obtained at the end of photosynthesis process is reduced by rhizobia bacteria present in root nodules into useful electrons. For capturing those electrons two electrodes are placed on either side of plant roots. Thus creating a closed path for transfer of electrons. Here the experiment is carried on four plants (Aloe Vera, Groundnut, Snake plant, Hibiscus) with same electrode configuration (copper-anode, mild steel-cathode) and same soil composition (70% red soil, 20% sand, 5% coir and 5% cow dung) and the obtained results were drawn between time and output voltage generated.
