Title

An investigation of failure and damage in unidirectional composite under static loading

Abstract

this paper presents the study of damage evolution in unidirectional composite under static loading using Abaqus (FEA) software only. Composite materials shows different type of failures since they are not homogeneous and isotropic Failure and damage studied at microscopic level. There Microscopic damage involves in three types as breaking of fibers, development of micro‐cracks in matrix, debonding between fibers and matrix. Composite damage is studied at micro level using representative volume element (RVE) or unit cell. Work performed on unit cell model for damage evolution in composites which can be used to predict the damage behavior of whole composite material damage evolution study gives clear idea that fiber fails first, followed by fiber/matrix interface and finally matrix.
