Title

Experimental research on fixed tube type shell and tube heat exchanger

Abstract

Heat exchangers are devices for affecting the process of heat exchange between two fluids that are at different temperatures. These heat exchangers are classified normally depending upon the transfer process occurring in them. Amongst all types of heat exchangers, shell and tube heat exchangers are mostly used. These heat exchangers are again classified based on fluid flow. They are parallel flow type, counter flow type and cross flow type. In this experiment, we are going to fabricate a shell and tube heat exchanger of fixed tube type. The effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient of the fixed tube shell and tube heat exchanger is made at variable temperatures by using thermocouples. In shell and tube heat exchanger, either hot or cold fluid occupies the annular space and other fluid moves through the inner pipes. If the flow of a fluid is in the direction of the other fluid, then the flow is said to be parallel flow and if the fluid flow is opposite to the direction of another fluid flow, then the flow is said to be counter flow. In this Experimental analysis the Effectiveness of heat exchanger in counter-flow given the maximum value of 0.9555 at this value the Overall heat transfer coefficient is of 28507.1 w/m2-K.
