Title

MODELING OF DISPERSION OF SO2 FROM Dr.NARLA TATA RAO THERMAL PLANT USING AERMOD MODEL

Abstract

Power plants are the major sources of air pollution. Coal is the primary fuel used for generation of electricity in India and its usage is continually increasing to meet the growing energy demands of the country. Emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants such as Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) are increasing parallel to the growing demands of electricity. Implications of power plant emissions on the environment depend on the concentrations of criteria pollutants emitted and in the recent past they are at alarming levels. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the concentrations of criteria pollutants for impact assessment. Study area chosen for the present study is Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Plant (NTTP), located at Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh State.In the present study, the concentrations of SPM, SO2 and NOX from the thermal power plant namely Dr.Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Plant was predicted by using AERMOD view 9.1. The Isopleths are drawn from the output files. The maximum concentration of SO2 is 48.80μg/m3 respectively are obtained and which are within the limits of Ambient Air Quality Standards.
