The whole planet is facing serious water scarcity problems. So in order to this problem, a literature review study was performed on the anaerobic treatment of wastewater using UASB and HUASB reactor as the core component. The merits of aerobic and anaerobic process are discussed along with the comparison of UASB and HUASB technology on the basis of their performance parameters like temperature, pH, upflow velocity, sludge granulation, HRT and OLR. Although both the technologies give good results but the study supports HUASB reactor as the better option for the treatment of wastewater.
