Title

Design Analysis & Topology Optimization of Automotive Brake Pedal.

Abstract

Nowadays with increased competition in automotive industry there is ever increased in efforts to improve the efficiency, reduce cost of automobile part. Brake pedals are widely use in all automotives, which acts as a linkage between occupant and brake mechanism. Existing design seems to be overdesigned as per requirement FEA will be used to apply cantilever load. ANSYS solver will be used perform topology optimization. This work is outcome of the modeling techniques using finite element simulation where model is analyzed and optimized. The brake pedal is used to apply brakes by action of pulling up the trigger of actuator which thus actuates the braking mechanism resulting in stoppage or slowing down of the vehicle. The model of an existing brake pedal was generated using CATIA V5 solid modeling. Existing design will be tested using strain gauge technique at tensile loading using UTM machine. Comparative analysis will be done with FEA and Experimental units. Conclusion and future scope will be suggested.
