Title

DIETARY APPROACHES OF PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM LIVER DISEASE

Abstract

Liver is a largest organ of human body, which constitutes about 2 percent to total body weight. Liver has a vital role in nutritional hemostasis, and in case of malnutrition, dysfunction of liver leads to abnormalities. Protein-calorie malnutrition is a transversal condition to all stages of liver disease. Etiology of liver disease deciphered malnutrition as cause led by anorexia, inefficient digestion/absorption measure or impaired metabolism. Heavy alcohol intake leads to loss of appetite. Cerotic patients may also suffer by an impaired digestion/absorption, often caused by presence of portal hypertension that promotes changes in the intestinal mucosa, causing increased permeability contributing to an increased loss of proteins. In order to assess the health condition and to study the dietary pattern of the selected patients, following objectives were set to be validated: Non-alcoholic liver disease is associated with metabolic syndrome, which is primarily related to insulin resistance, Unhealthy diet such as consumption of junk foods in name of advanced lifestyle, that are enriched in fructose, trans-fatty acids and saturated fat; and this seem to be associated with the development of NAFLD. In a study, it was found that alcohol intake and poor dietary habits are the main causes of the liver disease. Other investigations have indicated that consumption of fat, especially cholesterol and trans-fat are also the culprits of liver disease. In conclusion, weight loss is crucial and this may be optimized by taking balanced calorie diet. This study focuses on the effect of different dietary approaches to prevent and treat the liver disease by emphasizing on the micronutrient and energy consumption.
