Title

BASELINE MICROBIAL STUDY OF SWARNAPRASHANA YOGA AND MADHU GHRITA YOGA WITH RESPECT TO DRUG STABILITY IN DIFFERENT CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Swarnaprashana is a unique practice of gold licking mixed with honey and ghee in Neonates for health promotion and disease prevention described in Ayurveda. In the present study, the Swarnaprashana Yoga prepared from Swarna Bhasma, Madhu and Ghrita and Madhu Ghrita Yoga were subjected to drug stability test with respect to microbial contamination. Also, the risk of Infant Botulism has been associated with ingestion of microbial (Spores) contaminated honey or other food material in children below 1year of age. Keeping in concern the quality and safety of the prepared drugs, the present study was carried out for examination of any microbial growth in the selected samples of both prepared drugs in two different batches for a given period of time before the administration of drug in Neonates. AIM AND OBJECTIVE: To study the stability of Swarnaprashana Yoga and Madhu Ghrita Yoga with respect to microbial contamination in selected samples from each groups. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Samples of Group A (Swarnaprashana Yoga) and group B (Madhu-Ghrita) prepared in 2 different batches from the month of June 2018 to October 2018 and September 2018 to January 2019, stored under different climatic conditions and temperature set ups, were studied at regular intervals as per the laboratory standard operating procedure, conducted at Microbiology laboratory, IPGT &RA, Jamnagar. RESULT: All the selected samples during the given study period did not show any positive mycological or bacteriological findings up to 4 months from the date of preparation of the samples. CONCLUSION: The study findings showed that stability of both the prepared drugs in two different batches remain unaffected at different climatic conditions of Jamnagar for the period of 4 months separately with respect to microbial contamination.
