Title

Tribological & Mechanical Characterization Of Al-6061 Hybrid Metal Matrix Composite With SiC & Graphite As An Reinforcement

Abstract

From the past few decades, The automotive industry have been broadly using alluminium alloy for light weight vehicles. Components of Aluminum alloys, including cylinder heads, brake rotors, carburetor, transmission housings, pistons, wheels. Most of the work is on cutback of weight in the brake system has to be examined. Brake rotors, which are available mostly in heavy weight. Al 6061 alloy have many applications in transportation sector. Excellent mechanical properties could be achieved from Al6061 in addition with good ceramics like SiC & Graphite as a reinforcement, due to which the alloy having wide number of applications. Al-6061+SiC & Graphite are the both particulate of metal matrix composites, which will be fabricated with different weight proportions (3%, 5% & 7%) by stir casting technique. In the addition of ceramics(or the ceramics mentioned above) the alloy properties are highly better with inner comparison .In con-trast with the microstructure, wear behavior and Mechanical properties of the two AMMC’s will gave the best material for manufacturing of a brake rotor.
