Title

Skill Development and Higher Education Skill Development: A Continuous Process from Junior to Higher Education.

Abstract

According to the fifth annual employment survey at all India level, about 77% of the household are reported to have no regular wage. Compared to the growing rate of educated youths in the country, the employment rates have been quite unsatisfactory. This can be correlated to the age old educational system followed in the country. The educational system in India concentrates on bookish knowledge with no aid from practical knowhow. This leads to acquiring of high degrees but no jobs, as these degrees are based on theoretical knowledge of particular field, which does not hold well in the professional world. Here, comes the need of skill development, which is a process that needs to be incorporated from the grassroots, the benefits of which can be yield at any level by the students based on their economic needs. Skill development will not only help students get employed but generate employment for many in ventures of their own. It shall also help them enhance their creativity and make a befitting choice of the career they want to opt for, without getting into popular course due to parental or peer pressure. However, this is only possible if it is made a common phenomenon and introduced in junior school level with skills like communication enhancing and continued till the end of their education, where the skills become specific to the courses they opt for. In each stage the skills induced shall vary based on their age and understanding till it helps them to get employed or generate employment. This paper is an attempt to bring forth this idea of incorporation of skill development from school to higher level of education in a systematic manner; and put across some effective measures for the same.
