Traditional Knowledge is that area in the modern IP regime which offers a lot for research. The very nature of TK poses a challenge to the traditional IP thinking. There are some inherent characteristics of traditional knowledge which makes it incompatible with existing IPR regime. They are not considered to be a protectable subject matter under TRIPs, but still TK deserves protection through a sui-generis model of protection. This paper aims to discuss various sui-generis models adopted by most bio-diverse countries of the world for protection of traditional knowledge.
