Title

Knowledge Regarding Swine Flu Among Students In Selected Junior Colleges Of Pune City

Abstract

Introduction: Swine flu also called as H1N1 virus. Swine flu is caused by pig. Swine flu is a disorder of respiratory system in human. It can be transmitted in people who closely live in pig farms, business etc. The disease is spread among pigs by direct and indirect contact from pigs that are infected but do not have symptoms. In many parts of the world, pigs are vaccinated against Swine flu. The first Swine flu was found in Mexico in India. The first death due to Swine flu in India was in Pune. Transmission of swine flu virus from pigs to human always does not lead to human flu. If it is transmitted that result in the production of antibodies which cause human flu. People with regular exposure to pigs are at increased risk of swine flu infection. The present study title: a study to assess the knowledge regarding swine flu among students in selected junior colleges of pune city”.The objectives of the study, to assess the knowledge regarding swine flu. To associate the findings with selected demographic variables. Material and Methods: In present study Researcher adopted Non experimental survey design. non-probability convenient sampling technique was used. Study conducted on 200 sample. Ethical clearance was taken from Institutional ethics committee. Data analysis was done mainly using descriptive statistics test, Demographic variable was analyzed by using frequency, percentage and descriptive statics. Result: Out of 200,according to this analysis 19.5% are having poor knowledge, 57.5% students are having average knowledge and 23% students are having good knowledge regarding swine flu. Conclusion: In age, education, religion, gender, source of information and area residing in the P value source of information is above 0.05 hence there is associated among knowledge and demographic variables, 19.5% are having poor knowledge, 57.5% students are having average knowledge and 23% students are having good knowledge regarding swine flu. Recommendations: The study may be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching or any other method, study can be done on association between various demographic variable, which were significant on larger sample, similar study can be replicated in different setting to strengthen the finding, study could be undertaken to assess the knowledge of swine flu.
