Title

Menopause Stage in Women’s Reproductive Health: Psycho-Socio conditions and Problems.

Abstract

ABSTRACT As the campaign for women’s freedom started all over the world and even in India, ‘Women’s Empowerment’, ‘ Gender Equality’ and ‘ Reproductive Rights’ were the symbolic words that came into popular use. Society and government were compelled to emphasis Women’s participation in various sectors. Cairo’s international Conference on census development in 1994 gave boost to the consistent efforts of movements of women which provided reproductive rights to women and were accepted as fundamental rights and the health policy started including reproductive rights of women and required changes were attended to and yet in India the social and cultural forces are the real impediments in the enjoyment of reproductive rights of women. The social milieu in which the women live considers the difficulties faced in reproductive health as very natural and it has ill-effect on their health. If we look at the lifestyle circle from the view of women’s reproductive health, there are three important physical stages she passes through (1) Menstrual Cycle Stage (2) Conception of Child Stage (3) Menopause Stage. During these stages women face umpteen numbers of inequalities and difficulties which are barriers to opportunities for development. During the whole life, women face many mental questions and various difficulties during these stages, while passing through what is her understanding, her confusion and what the social system is around is useful to know her position. What are her traditional beliefs while physical changes take place in her body and what type of assistance she receives from her family members, husband, friends, workplace, etc.? are important problems that women face. The present study reveals the physical and mental changes of women during menopause stage and the resultant embarrassments, confusions and social barriers, efforts made by family members during this stage. Are the women folk aware of the reproductive health issues? What are the experience and effects on their life in menopause stage? The Researcher has tried to study it. The present study has covered 148 literate and illiterate women of Mehsana District of Gujarat State of India. The data was collected in various schedules from all of them and it is presented hereafter proper analysis interpretation.
