Title

Reducing Charge Recombination in DSSC Using Ni-doped Titania Nanoparticles on FTO Substrate

Abstract

Controlling the nanocrystalline structure of TiO2 powders is very important for the application to DSSC because the efficiency of DSSC is considerably influenced on the change of the TiO2 nanostructures. Ni-TiO2 nanopowders were synthesized by the conventional acid modified sol–gel method. DSSC were fabricated using Rhodamine dye and studied the interaction between the photoelectrode and the counter electrode with platinum coated FTO substrate. The XRD study reveals that Ni had been doped into the TiO2 lattice with anatase phase (JCPDS-84-1286). The absorption edge of TiO2 nanoparticles shifted towards longer wavelength from 360 nm to 440 nm and reduces the bandgap from 2.58eV to 2.08 eV. However, Ni-TiO2 photoelectrode by doctor blade method was remarkably better than that of pristine TiO2 photoelectrode.
