Common property resources are the major resources for livelihood of the rural people as they can’t afford to avail the requirement from the market. In addition, agrarian economy not only confined to agricultural activities but also agro-oriented activities like rearing livestock and other activities. In addition, rural cooking energy largely depends on firewood which mainly available in common property resources and accessible to the huge sections of the rural mass. The study examine the constraints confronted by the selected people in rural areas in Cuddlaore district in accessing source of energy for cooking while common property depleting consistently. The study confined to 500 people located in selected villages in Cuddlaore. The results indicated that majority of the people depends on firewood for cooking purpose and the depletion of common property has been severely affected the access to firewood in the study area. Further, it also enhanced their vulnerability more.
