Sex ratio is one of the basic population characteristics which depicts the status of women and measures the extent of prevailing equity between males and females in a society at a given point of time. It is a ratio of females to thousand males. It is mainly the outcome of the interplay of sex differentials in mortality, sex selective migration, sex ratio at birth and at times the sex differentials in population enumeration. In this paper an attempt is made to understand the spatio-temporal patterns and its differentials as well as its impact on the society in the state of Assam. .
