Title

Aerodynamic Structural Analysis of An Aircraft Wing

Abstract

Aerodynamic problems in general are often difficult to solve by analytical analysis. Experimental or numerical simulation can be used to analyze these computational models. However, due to the large expenses required in the experimental method, the numerical method is more preferred. This project presents the modelling and simulating processes of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) problem on a aircraft wing model, using typical section of NACA 2412 airfoil. ANSYS Fluent is used to analyze the pressure and velocity distribution on the surface of wing. In this structural analysis aircraft wing is fixed as a cantilever beam and pressure load is applied. The pressure force is imported from the results from the CFD analysis. The pressure that flow over the wing in the CFD analysis is applied as the pressure load on the top and bottom surface of the wing. This is done using software ANSYS FLUENT 15.0. The lift and drag forces are also determined by ANSYS Structural. Also stress distribution on the wing is studied for different materials with reference of journal papers and ANSYS is chosen for modelling the airfoil and analysis. The structural analysis is also compared with the different aircraft wing materials made of CFRP T300/976 and aluminium 7075 T6 for better strength. ANSYS FEA tool is used for the purpose of study. A further ANSYS FLUENT is needed for computational fluid dynamic analysis of aircraft wing model. Modelling, meshing and analysis is done ANSYS FEA tool.
