Title

Self care practices of postnatal care among mothers who underwent LSCS

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Introduction: Self-care is an integral part of holistic living of one's life. Self-care approach is a challenge in post-operative period in the health care system. Post-operative period after caesarean section is a time of transition during which the mother must care for herself and for her newborn. Observing the mother during post operative period about the self care practices and develop the information booklet in antenatal period it will reduce the complications, maternal mortality and morbidity .Objectives: To assess the self care practices among mothers who underwent LSCS. To associate the self care practices with selected demographic variables. To develop the information booklet based on the study findings regarding postnatal care. Methodology: descriptive research was adapted to carry out the study . 50 mothers were selected using Purposive sample technique who are undergone LSCS in SPMCH, Tirupati. Observation checklist was used to assess the self care practices during postoperative period-day two, three and four consecutively. Results: the study findings revealed 15 (30%) mothers were having poor practices on day 2nd , average and good self-care practice in 3rd and 4th day of after Lower Segment Caesarean Section. (58%) subjects were performed good self care in 3rd day and (76%) mothers were performed good self care in 4th day .The self care practices was increased every day. Conclusion: Poor self care practices observed about exercises, care of eyes, umbilical card, breast hygiene and hand washing. Hence there was need to give health education on exercises, care of eyes, umbilical card, breast hygiene and hand washing. Recommendation: A comparative study can be conducted between primi para mothers and multipara mothers underwent LSCS.
