This paper focuses on the importance of handmade paper industry,the uses of handmade paper in our daily lives and how it can prove as sustainable alternative in beating plastics pollution.The generation of employment from this industry and its impact on the economy of the district of the Kalimpong.Recently the industry is facing a severe crisis and since the Himalayan paper forms a part of rich cultural heritage of the hills,there is a thorough revamp of the industries to supply better products.The handmade paper is produced from a non-tree shrub.The species of daphne,known as Argaylee(local name) or lokta paper(in Nepal).The shrub has multifaceted uses and is sustainable and ecofriendly.
