Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing techniques can be used to monitor patient’s health conditions after major surgeries. IoT generates a huge amount of data that can be processed on cloud computing. But for real time health monitoring system, the time taken to transfer the data to the cloud and from the cloud is unacceptable. By using Fog computing or fog layer in between the sensor network and cloud layer reduces the transmission delay of patient’s health information. Information from various sensors is processed by a GSM module. The data transmitted from the microcontroller is stored on the cloud for long term storage and that data can be accessed at any time whenever required. Just having a simple sensor network to cloud layer system is not viable, and for that fog layer is needed. Fog layer improves the efficiency of the entire system, as it not only reduces the delay required from the cloud and to the cloud but also eliminates risk regarding the data center failure. As proposed the remote patient health monitoring in smart homes by using the concept of fog computing.
