The paper is a study of the importance of Idu, the semi-circular mud mountains, in the history of Kasaragod district of Kerala state. The heritage and culture of the Kasaragod District is best demonstrated by Idu built by the inhabitants of the area hundreds of years ago. The Idus remain as the symbol of resistance by the natives against the invasions, assimilation and settlements from time to time. The presence of Idus became proof of the archery training given to the natives years back. The ritual art theyyam connected with these structures testify to the power structure maintained by the landlords through the practice of theyyam performance.
