Suzan Lori Parks, who denies clichéd identification, is influenced by postmodern writers like Joyce, Brecht, Stein and Beckett who have excelled in postmodern techniques of writing. In this paper, I draw upon some of the features of postmodernism adopted by Parks in her plays in spite of rejecting influences. The four plays chosen for discussion are The Imperceptible Mutabilities of the Third Kingdom; The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World; Venus; and Topdog/ Underdog.
