This paper is an attempt to study the female characters of Mahasweta Devi’s Outcast, a collection of four stories translated by Sarmistha Dutta Gupta. It talks about four women from the marginalized sections of the society. These four women share the common fate of unending suffering owing to casteism, classism and sexism. The women taken for study, Dhouli, Shanichari, Josmina and Chinta are all victims to the cruelest forms of exploitations. Mahasweta Devi through these women makes the society to rethink and reset the societal norms.
