Title

SMART AQUAPONICS USING IoT

Abstract

Aquaponics system is a symbiotic combination of aquaculture and hydroponics that facilitates soil-less plant cultivation by utilizing the highly enriched effluent of fish or other aquatic animals that contains all the nutrient required for optimum plant growth in an integrated environment. Aquaponics is considered as one of the best farming techniques, since the waste of one living ecosystem is used to benefit another natural ecosystem to attain a smart and sustainable cycle in organic farming with two streams of income, fishes and vegetables. This system makes it possible to be self-sufficient by the fact that with this technique the plants grow 6 times faster when compared to traditional farming even in home gardens, it also evicts the use of pesticides & fertilizers and reduces the water consumption up to 90% as in conventional farming by recirculating the clean and nutrient-rich water indefinitely. This project includes many features like temperature sensing and controlling using heat source and cooling fan, detection of pH in water using a pH sensor, and a pump for cleaning and re-circulating the water. Our proposed project first detects the parameters of water using various sensors and using PIC 16F877A microcontroller the data will be compared with an optimum range of the respective parameters, then if the qualities are below or above optimum range the needed operations will be done accordingly. A new technology called the Internet of Things (IoT) bridges the gap between the physical world and the digital world. In this aquaponics monitoring system, with the application of IoT the webserver continuously displays the values of the parameters and information.
