Abstract

A quasi experimental study to determine the effectiveness of ginger extract in inflammatory symptoms of respiratory tract in a selected population of Sunder Nagri, Delhi. The present study was conducted with the purpose to determine the effectiveness of ginger extract in inflammatory symptoms of respiratory tract. A quantitative approach was adopted for the study using a quasi experimental research design. The setting selected for the present study included selected population of Sunder Nagri, Delhi which was done by purposive sampling. The sample of the study comprised of 60 samples, 30 in each control & experimental group in St. Stephen’s Hospital, Community Health Department, Sunder Nagri, Delhi. The tools used for data collection were : (i) Total Nasal Symptom score to determine the severity of the symptoms (ii) Self- Structured questionnaire was prepared to evaluate the quality of life. Purposive sampling technique was used for selection of samples. The entire samples were taken from St. Stephen’s Hospital, Community Health Department, Sunder Nagri, Delhi. Before starting the data collection the reseracher introduced herself, explained the purpose of the study, clarified queries and taken written consent of the samples. In control group, the physician has administered Tab. Cetrizine 5 mg. In experimental group the ginger extract was prepared in front of them and administered for three days. Continous assessment for three days was done for both the groups to determine the reduction in severity of the symptoms. The data obtained was analyzed and interpreted using both descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, median, standard deviation, ‘t’ test and chi square. Total Nasal symptom score and Self structured questionnaire showed that the control group had higher scores than experimental group. Control group showed more variations in total nasal symptom score and self structured questionnaire, which showed the effectiveness of ginger extract in reducing inflammatory symptoms of respiratory tract.
