ABSTRACT The study aims to focus on awareness level of rural areas investors with special reference to Rajkot district. Most of the investors, particularly rural investors, are found to be unaware about investment avenues and rules and regulations. In spite of remarkable growth of our economy and increasing income levels of people, the pace of savings mobilization is lower in India. Rural savings are not mobilized and not invested properly. Investment is an economic activity which creates capital required for various sectors of the economy. So, every earning person should be motivated to save and invest his/her money. The study attempted to find out the awareness levels of rural investors about various investment avenues, their preferences, and considerations for investing money. The major focus of the study is on primary data which collected by structured questionnaire using convenient sampling technique with the sample size of 200 respondents in rural areas of Rajkot district. The data has been analyzed using ANOVA test. The researcher has analyzed those rural areas ninety percent investors aware of investment avenues. Bank deposits, Insurance, Real assets, Pension and provident fund were popular investment avenues for majority of the investors and some investors are aware of mutual fund, shares and any other investment avenues. The study concludes that awareness level of rural areas investors is significantly related to investor’s gender and his preferred investment avenues. The investors are mostly go for secure investment and moderate and high return investment avenues preferred.The investment preference order of the respondents indicated that they wished to park their investments in 'safe' options only. Bank deposits, gold and jewelry, real estate were popular investment avenues for a majority of the investors. Key words: Investment avenues, Gender, Age, awareness level, preferences
