Detection of text from the images and identification of characters is a challenging problem. Image content contain attributes like texture, shape and other is in the form of text. It is a little bit challenging task to detect the text from the captured images. In this paper, the goal of our application Med-Info is to recognize the text from tablet’s cover so that it can be used to extract its information and the end user need not do much work.Optical character recognition is the method used to convert printed text on an image or a document, magazines,newspapers,posters,etc., into editable text.OCR has varied number of applications and very useful as content based image retrieval, structuring and indexing of images is of great importance in today's world. Text extraction from images is a difficult job due to variations in the text such as alignment,orientation,style,size,font, colour,image contrast and the backgrounds that images have and the quality of the image.However,text extraction from images here will be done by using OpenCV libraries and python programming language. The first phase involves conversion of image into grayscale, next the characters set obtained is segmented and they are processed further for recognition
