Title

THE EFFECT OF APPLIED PRESSURE, CURING TIME AND TEMPERATURE ON FLYASH COMPOSITE

Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this work, we present the effect of applied pressure, curing time and temperature on fly ash composite. The fly ash is the solid waste which is obtained by burning of pulverised coal in thermal power stations.Fly ash is very useful by-product hence it is now accepted as a resourceful and commercial material. The fly ash could be reused, recycled and can be compounded with suitable inorganic chemicals. It can be converted into hard and strong tiles and many more value added products hence fly ash has got prime importance in waste management. The present paper deals with the effect of applied pressure, drying time, curing time and temperature of drying on fly ash composite tile and its compressive strength. Compressive strength is a very important parameter for the design of structures. The tiles were prepared by compounding fly ash, lime and sodium hydroxide. The prepared tiles were dried for different time intervals and subjected to curing for different time. The tiles were allowed to dry at different temperature and its compressive strength was determined. The purpose of subjecting tiles to applied pressure, drying time, curing time and temperature of drying is to increase the performance of the tiles. Observation shows that as applied pressure increased compressive strength of the tiles also increased. The compressive strength decreases with increase in drying time. Further compressive strength was found to increase with increase in curing time. It was also found that increase in drying temperature the compressive strength of the fly ash composites increases up to certain value after that it decreased. Hence a suitable drying time, input pressure, curing time are to be selected and heated at suitable temperature so as to get optimum durable composites.
