The aim of this research is to explore various issues of motivation for the teachers in higher education institutions. This research has been conducted in provincialised general degree colleges of Jorhat District, Assam. The primary data has been collected through questionnaire and in depth face to face interviews. Findings have shown that work environment, feedback, recognition and relation with the authority, use of bio-metric machine are some potential factors for motivating teachers in higher education. Contribution- This study can play a vital role in compelling the higher education authorities to ponder over the motivational issues of teachers in colleges. The case study in this research can prove to be an effectual case for other areas of educational institutions where teachers are facing alike issues.
