This paper explains and executes different control algorithms for DSTATCOM. The evaluation of different methods is made to derive reference source current signals from the load current signals to generate the switching pulses for IGBTs of VSC of the DSTATCOM for harmonic elimination and reactive power compensation. These methods are Back Propagation Control Algorithm (BPCA), Synchronous Reference Frame Theory (SRFT) and Instantaneous Reactive Power Theory (IRPT). BPCA is based on the fundamental extracted weighted value of reactive and active power components of load currents. These current values are required for the reference source current estimation. SRFT is based on the transformation of synchronously rotating load currents in d-q frame and IRPT is based on the transformation of three phase load voltage or currents in α-β orthogonal coordinates. BPCA, SRF and IRPT theory based DSTATCOM are simulated using Simulink for linear and non linear loads. Here linear load used is three phase series RL load and non linear loads are three phase uncontrolled and half controlled bridge rectifiers with RL load. The performance of DSTATCOM is studied with the proposed control algorithms for various types of loads.
