Abstract

Agricultureinmadhubanidistrictisbasicalysubsistence orientedhavingheavypopulationpressureonlandwithdeteriorating land-manratio.Startingwithapoorindustrialbase,thepaceof urbanizationandindustrializationhasnotbeensufficienttoabsorbthe annualadditioninpopulation,therebyleadingtogreaterconcentration ofpopulationintheruralareas.Thebackwardstatusofagriculturealso failedtofeedandemploy ineverincreasingagriculturalydependent populationasthegrowthoffoodgrainproductionfailedtomatchthe rateofincreaseinpopulation.Asaresult,percapitaproductionand availabilityoffoodcontinuedtofalwithseriousimpactonnutritional status.Thebasic contributingfactorstolowproductionefficiencyin theregion(Madhubanidistrict)arethelowerapplicationofmodern technologyintheformofvariousimprovedproductioninputs.
