Title

Gas-Sensing Properties of Cr doped Lithium Ferrites based Sensor for Environmental Monitoring

Abstract

Nanocrystalline Li0.5Fe2.5-xCrxO4 (2.5 ≥ x ≥ 0) system was prepared by sol-gel method. Formation of single phase cubic spinel structure for all the compositions was confirmed from their X-ray diffraction patterns. The lattice parameter shows a decreasing trend with the increase in Cr content. The ferrospinels synthesized by autocombusion method were in Nanocrystalline range.The electrical resistivity is decreasing with increasing temperature for all the samples which indicates that Cr-added lithium ferrites have semiconductor- like behavior. Various reducing and oxidizing gases were tested for gas sensing activity of all the compositions of Li-Cr ferrites. Lithium ferrite shows remarkable response towards LPG with good selectivity while decreases sensitivity all Cr rich lithium ferrite.The detailed results of structural and gas sensing properties have been discussed so as to bring out the role of Cr substitution in Lithium ferrite.
