Title

Women Empowerment: A study to Analyse women perspective about empowerment in Delhi/NCR region

Abstract

Women Empowerment has been a widely spoken about even today in this modern era where we have evolved and progressed tremendously in almost every field. Yet women who constitute half of the population still lack the basic right to make choices for herself and lack the power in almost all aspect of life whether political, social or economic. This study is all the more important as it tries to cover working women in an area which has one of the highest GDP per capita and at the same time one of unsafe place for women; Delhi/NCR. The study tries to understand the perspective of women on empowerment and in this way tries to find out the extent to which women feel empowered. It also tries to find whether there are any differences in empowerment based on various parameter. The research uses primary data which have been collected from working women professionals in the regions of Delhi/NCR. A structured questionnaire divided into two parts, first being about demographic and personal details and second which involves forty different statement which covers various sub part of women empowerment. The study with the help of Factor analysis identified three types of empowerment namely, Empowerment of Decision Making, Societal Empowerment and Workplace Empowerment. And with the help of t-test the study found out that based on various parameter like age, field of work, employment status or Marital status no such significant differences can be seen because irrespective of these parameters the empowerment is majorly affected by the family, they are part of and the society they live in. And most family act in replica to what society in general feels thus individually many may feel empowered yet collectively the situation remains the same and women feeling empowered in the society still needs a long struggle. The suggestion from most women who participated in the study implies that education, financial independence, and an overall change in societies thought process can help in the long run.
