Title

Impact on soil properties by the use of sewage farming in irrigation at asarma village, surat

Authors

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the impact on soil properties by the use of treated sewage water in irrigation comparison with irrigation by canal water. Scarcity of quality fresh water for agriculture has made treated sewage water application an alternate option. To investigate the beneficial impact of treated sewage water on soil properties, treated sewage water & canal water samples are discharged into the soil separately. After the application of treated sewage water & canal water during growth period of crop that is 7 days & 15 days, the soil properties N, P, K, OC and pH was determined. Use of treated sewage water for irrigation improved chemical properties & fertility status in soil. Field application of treated sewage water significantly increases soil organic carbon percentage, soil electrical conductivity, macro-nutrient content (N, P) in comparison with the use of canal water. Sewage farming leads to increases crop yield with an improved fertility status of soil. Sewage farming is a beneficial method to decrease the rise of fresh water demand.

Key Words

Canal water, Domestic treated sewage water, Soil parameters (N, P, pH, EC, OC)
