The main aim of the study was to determine magnitude of hypertension among young population and importance of early blood pressure monitoring. India, the world's largest democracy, is undergoing a rapid economic growth. This growth has been accompanied by demographic, lifestyle and cultural changes which have had a large impact on the health profile of Indian citizens and placed a significant strain on the country's healthcare system. Hypertension is a major risk factor for Cardiovascular diseases. By identifying the blood pressure levels one can identify risk factors of hypertension and population at risk. Identifying and controlling hypertension may be one of the most important and least expensive ways in which people can help to control the disease burden in the coming decades. High risk screening programme should be started to detect persons at risk of developing hypertension. Information, education, and communication activities should be started to increase the awareness of people to adopt healthy lifestyles like regular physical exercise, restricted salt intake, avoidance of alcohol and smoking.
