Title

Transient thermal and static structural analysis of vented disc rotors.

Abstract

Recent trends and developments in automobile technology have resulted in building safer vehicles, especially considering the braking system, which decelerates the vehicles as per the driver’s requirement within reasonable time. Continuous braking results in excessive heating of the disc rotors, which results in decreasing the braking efficiency which modern cars cannot abide. When brakes are applied, the kinetic energy of vehicles is converted into heat energy, thus if the heat dissipation is not quick enough, it may induce a number of problems such as thermal elastic instability. This work deals with the study of the existing vented disc rotors made of stainless steel using Solidworks and Ansys, to perform transient thermal analysis and structural analysis in five steps for a time period of five seconds.
