Title

Gas Transport Properties and Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Semifluorinated Poly(ether amide)s with Bulky Moiety

Abstract

Using the solution cast method, a diacid monomer, 2,6-bis[3'-trifluoromethyl-4'(4''-carboxyphenoxy)benzyl]pyridine, reacted with four distinct bulky diamine monomers to create a series of reported aromatic polyamide (PA) polymeric membranes. With a tensile strength of up to 95 MPa and high thermal stability, the resultant PAs demonstrated good mechanical qualities. Using a constant-volume approach, the gas permeability of the produced membranes was examined for four distinct gases: CH4, N2, O2 and CO2. High permselectivity (PCO2/PCH4 up to 47.50) and gas permeability (PCO2 up to 81 and PO2 up to 20 barrer) were demonstrated by the addition of a bulky group to the polymer backbone. Using molecular dynamics (MD) modeling, the impact of bulky groups, their spatial organization, and the size-distribution function of the free-volume on gas transport characteristics were computed.
