After the adoption of reform measures, there has been major changes in the philosophy, attitudes, and functioning of commercial banks and banks are required to handle the massive inflows and outflows of financial resources. Therefore, a robust financial system via consolidation is essential. Under such scenarios, it is vital to analyses the effect of consolidation on several profitability and efficiency characteristics of the banks. In the paper the effort is made to analyze the pre-merger and post-merger performance of Bharat Overseas Bank and Indian Overseas Bank by comparing several efficiency metrics like Profit Per employee, Business Per Employee, Investment and Advances, Interest Income, Return on Assets, NPAs etc. The analysis revealed that following merging there is improvement in all the metrics of theinstitutions.
