Title

Fish Production Trends in Assam: A Comparative Study of Nagaon and Barpeta Districts (2008-2020)

Authors

Abstract

This study analyses the fish production trends in two major districts of Assam—Nagaon and Barpeta—over the period 2008 to 2020 and compares them with the overall fish production in the state. Using secondary data from the Statistical Hand Book of Assam, the study employs descriptive statistics and multiple inferential statistical tools including Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), Paired Samples t-Test, One-Way ANOVA, and Linear Regression to evaluate production patterns. Results indicate that Nagaon has the highest CAGR of 9.05%, significantly surpassing Barpeta and the state average. The t-Test confirms a statistically significant difference in mean production between Nagaon and Barpeta. ANOVA results also show strong variance among the three regions, particularly between the state and district levels. Regression analysis reveals a consistent and positive trend in fish production over the years, with high adjusted R² values and no multicollinearity. The study concludes that replicating Nagaon’s aquaculture model in other districts could boost fish production across Assam. These findings can support localized planning under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and inform future research on micro-level aquaculture dynamics.
