Title

Synthesis and characterization of novel non-linear optical material La2BaB10O19

Abstract

A novel nonlinear optical (NLO) polycrystalline material-lanthanum barium borate (LBB) has been synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The differential thermal analysis shows the material melts at 898oC. The synthesized material exhibits monoclinic crystal structure with the space group C2, which has been confirmed from powder X-ray diffraction study. The second harmonic generation (SHG) in the powder sample was examined by using Nd:YAG laser with a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm. The test confirms the SHG by the synthesized material. From the Fourier transform infrared analysis, BO3 and BO4 are the ionic groups exist in the materials which are responsible to produce NLO phenomenon in the prepare samples.
