Title

Biogenic Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles: Sustainable Synthesis Routes and their expanding Biomedical Frontiers

Abstract

An important part of nanotechnology is the study and control of matter at dimensions between approximately 1 and 100 nanometers, in which unique phenomena make it possible to create entirely new products. Among many other nanomaterials, ZnO-NPs have attracted much attention and have been applied in numerous fields of medicine, cosmetics, antibacterial agents, textiles, as well as the automotive industry. Despite the conventional physical and chemical approaches used for the synthesis of ZnO-NPs, recent research trends are shifting toward biological or “green” synthesis via eco-friendly materials, such as plant extracts, microbes, and enzymes. These sustainable methods are considered safer options as low toxic residues and environmental impact are produced. ZnO-NPs have exhibited tremendous anti-bacterial & anticancer potential and recently they are being investigated for their prospective solicitations in drug delivery systems and biosensors. Recent developments in green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles and their promising applications in biomedicine are discussed.
