Food security is very important goal of sustainable development agenda. In the absences of In order to achieve food security it is also important that the poor have sufficient means to purchase food. Poor people cannot afford to purchase the food they need at market prices, and therefore, social protection programmes are needed. In order to provide food security to its people Karnataka state has taken many steps through various targeted schemes. With this background this paper aims at discussing various food security programmes implemented by Government of Karnataka. . This is a working paper under ICSSR (IMPRESS Scheme) sponsored project on, Food Security in India: A Case Study of Coastal Karnataka.
