Title

Seismic Analysis of Eccentrically Braced Structures

Abstract

According to the current studies, high rise structures are the most concern construction in the field of structural world. In the recent years, steel structures is up on the margin as it has many benefits, whether it belongs to strength and stiffness or it is ductility and elasticity. Steel structures exhibits the ductile behaviour when subjected to lateral loading which may cause by wind or earthquake. Bracing plays a vital role in resisting seismic loads. Different types of bracing have variant configurations which has a unique role in the analysis. Eccentric bracing is one of the most efficient type of bracing when compared to concentric and moment resisting frames. In Eccentrically braced frame, the distance is either left between two ends of bracing member or between the bracing member and column or between bracing member and beam. The distance here is called as link. The key function of the link is to provide a weak section in the frame which provides the plastic deformation capacity and the energy released by the earthquake. The present study deals with the eccentrically braced frame with a short link to assess the performance of eccentrically braced frames by performing three-dimensional seismic analysis over the structure. The analysis is performed with distinct types of bracing configurations and seismic zones. The results obtained were very precise with respect to the link length i.e.200 and 600 mm length in seismic zone III and IV with respective configurations D and Chevron bracing
