As the economy of a country grows, the needs of its population also increase and diversify. Growing income of a large population would increase the wood demand significantly. The demand for wood at household level could transform from fuel needs to life-style based needs including construction and furniture needs. Further, the demand from industrial sector could also transform from traditional (e.g., paper and pulp) to modern forms (e.g., sports goods). The supply of wood could also transform from traditional sources, namely forests, to plantations and agro-forestry, and imports in an increasingly liberalized global economy. So the study focuses on the Forest Resources and the Trends in the production, consumption, Imports and Export of Timber products in India.
