Title

A correlational study to assess the knowledge and knowledge on practice regarding blood donation among the employees of selected institutes of Nadiad city, Gujarat.

Abstract

Introduction: Human blood is a vital, life saving component and capable of millions of lives saving if ready availability can be ensured. WHO theme is that “ safe blood starts with me, and the blood saves lives”. The accessibility of safe blood and blood product is a captious factor in improving health care in our country, lack of voluntary blood donation is a major challenge. This could be due to lack of knowledge in community people, unfavorable attitude and unwillingness towards voluntary blood donation. Thus, the main aim behind this study was to assess knowledge and knowledge on practice regarding blood donation among employees of selected institute in Nadiad city, Gujarat. Aims: The current study is aimed to evaluate the knowledge and knowledge on practice regarding blood donation among the employees of selected institute. The researcher wants to know regarding knowledge and how the people implement their knowledge in their life regarding blood donation. Methodology: Design and setting: Quantitative non-experimental research design was used and non-probability (Lottery) sampling method was used to drawn the sample through self administrative questionnaire, where after tool validation from various subject experts, all question were plots on questioner and inform consent form also has been taken prior to the data collection from the participants. Prior to data data collection written setting permission obtain from nursing college principal and various principal of Science, Arts, Ayurvedic and commerce colleges. For the data collection researcher selected one nursing institute which were namely Dinsha Patel College Of Nursing, and other institute namely as J.S Ayurved Mahavidyalay, J and J College Of Science, T.J Patel Commerce College, I.V Patel College Of Commerce and C.B Patel Arts College of Nadiad City. The tool consist of three section in which section-01 demographic variable, section-02 Self administered Questionnaire to assess the Knowledge regarding blood donation and section-03: Self administered Questionnaire to assess the knowledge on practice regarding blood donation. Statistical Analysis Used applied where, data were analyzed by SPPS software and frequency, percentage, tables etc. were used to represent the statistical data in the table, graphs and figures chi square test was used to assess the significant association between the demographic and the level of knowledge and pearson formula was used for correlational test between variable. Results: level of knowledge 9(9.0%) of teaching institute employees had poor knowledge, 46(46.0%) of teaching institute employees had average knowledge, 45(45.0%) of teaching institute employees had good knowledge. Conclusion: Regarding knowledge and knowledge on practice towards blood donation, the majority of the employee has average knowledge and knowledge on practice of blood donation.
