Title

AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF CERVICAL MYELOPATHY - A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Any neurological deficit related to the spinal cord is known as myelopathy. The most common form in humans, is cervical spondylotic myelopathy. It is a serious condition as it may cause pressure on spinal cord. If left untreated it can lead to significant and permanent nerve damage paralysis, rarely resulting in death. According to the underlying cause, contemporary science advices use of antibiotics to surgery in such cases according to the condition of the patient. A 45 Years old male patient with chief complain of Dakshinasharira Karmahani, Gamane Kashtata, Asane Kashtata, Daurbalyata, Vibandha, Agnimandya was admitted in Govt. Akhandanand Ayurveda Hospital. Ayurvedic procedure (Panchkarma) i.e., Abhyanga, Swedana, Tiktakshirbasti, Matrabasti, Shashtikashali Pindasweda, Nasya with internal Ayurvedic Aushadhi were given to the patient. Patient was admitted for near about two month and showed highly significant improvement in gradation of power and gait. In this study an attempt has been made to discuss Ayurvedic view in diagnosis and management of this case study. Scientific effort has been made to explain mode of action of Shamana Aushadhi and Panchkarma procedures conducted in this case.
