The present study was performed at different sites of Bijapur district, Chattisgarh. Bijapur district has rich biological diversity with high number of medicinal plants. The study covered several villages of Bhairamgarh and Bhopalpatnam blocks of Bijapur district. The tribal communities residing in the forests mostly depend on traditional knowledge for their medicinal needs. The above study documents 40 ethnomedicinal plants belonging to 38 genera under 30 families. The most dominant families were Liliaceae and Cucurbitaceae followed by Ascelpiadaceae, Acanthaceae, Combretaceae, Fabaceae, Loganiaceae, Solanaceae, Sapotaceae and Zingiberaceae. The medicinal plants documented in the above study are used for curing different ailments like fever, cough, bronchitis, asthma, stomachache, toothache, diarrhea, dysentery, infections, etc. The study details the need for ethnobotanical study and documentation of medicinal properties of plants.
