Title

“A study to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching Program regarding psychological first aid in terms of knowledge among teachers of selected higher secondary schools of Ahmedabad city.”

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Psychological first aid is a ‘humane, supportive response to a fellow human being who is suffering and who may need support’. Administering psychological first aid among teacher can enhance not only the knowledge of teachers but it can be directly helpful to the students, family, and society. Objectives: the aim of the study is to determine that whether structured teaching programme was effective among higher secondary school teachers in terms of their knowledge on psychological first aid together with demographic variables. Methods: Under pre-experimental research design total, 40 higher secondary school teachers were recruited through non probability convenient sampling. Knowledge objective and demographic variable were assessed through pre-test with the help of structured knowledge questionnaire. Afterward structured teaching programme on psychological first aid was administered along with audio-visual aid. Followed by Post-test which was carried after 07 days. Results: According to the findings, the mean post-test knowledge score was significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score with a mean difference of 6.08. The calculated ‘t’ value (13.075) was greater than the tabulated ‘t’ value (2.02) at 0.05 level of significance. Therefore, the null hypothesis H0 was rejected and research hypothesis H1 was accepted and it revealed that the structured teaching program was effective in increasing knowledge among higher secondary school teachers. The findings also revealed that type of family, marital status,job experience and education have significant association with pre-test knowledge score. Hence, the research hypothesis (H2) was accepted Conclusion: Revealed in Pre-test, average knowledge score was 9.20 with standard deviation of 3.52 whereas in post-test average knowledge score was 15.28 with standard deviation of 5. Significance of the difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge score was statistically tested using paired „t‟ test and it was found significant at 0.05 levels. There was significant increase in the knowledge score in the teachers after administering the structured teaching program regarding psychological first aid. This indicates that the structure-teaching program was effective to enhance the level of knowledge about the psychological first aid among the higher secondary school teachers.
