Title

PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF Stachytarpheta mutabilis

Abstract

The plants have tremendous medicinal properties. Some plants are being unnoticed though they have some significant medicinal advantages. Stachytarpheta mutabilis belongs to verbenaceae family. It has different names changeable velvetberry, coral porterweed, pink snakeweed, red snakeweed. It is native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America and in Western parts of Maharashtra, South Karnataka and India. The other species of Stachytarpheta are showing other medicinal properties such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.(Ololade et al 2014) The phytochemical analysis from leaves of Stachytarpheta mutabilis study investigated presence of secondary metabolites such as Phenols, flavonoids, steroids, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids, saponins and alkaloids. (Irenus et al 2018). The proximate analysis parameters such as total ash (14.92%), acid insoluble ash (3%), water insoluble ash (3%), alcohol extractive index (1.4%), water extractive index (1.24%), moisture content (8%) were evaluated (Cyril ogbiko, Dickson musa et al 2019). Quantitative estimation of total phenols(300µg/mg), total tannins(100µg/mg), total flavonoids(25µg/mg), and total terpenoids(120µg/mg) comparing with gallic acid, tannic acid, quercetin, and linalool equivalent respectively were evaluated (Iwu Irenus Chinonye, Onu Uchenna Lynda 2018) The study recommends for further research analysis on active compounds and other additional medicinal properties
